DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Durham County won’t allow restaurants, pools, barbershops and salons to open until June 1, a county official said.
Wendy Jacobs, chair of the Durham County Board of Commissioners, confirmed in a text sent to The Herald-Sun of Durham that those entities won’t be allowed to open in Durham for another week. Jacobs said further details will be released on Friday., when she and Durham Mayor Steve Schewel will make a joint announcement to further amend and extend the order
The decision by Durham County comes one day after Gov. Roy Cooper announced on Wednesday that restaurants, barbershops and salons could welcome customers indoors starting this weekend. Those businesses can open at 50% capacity.
Cooper said bars, gyms and other indoor entertainment will need to remain closed for another five weeks.
WRAL first reported Durham’s delayed reopening, quoting an email that Schewel sent Wednesday to a group advising the city and county on reopening.
