MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi city has a new chief administrative officer after the mayor terminated the person who previously held the position.
The Meridian Star reports that Eddie Kelly was appointed to the post on Tuesday.
He succeeds Richie McAlister, who was asked to resign by Mayor Percy Bland last week. McAlister had been in a long-running dispute involving a member of the city council.
Kelly, a native of Gulfport, served as an area division manager for the Mississippi Power Company before retiring in July 2018, according to The Meridian Star.
He is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from William Carey University and an MBA from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia.
Kelly said his goal was to work with the mayor and city council to “do the right thing for this city.”
