A few days after reports broke that he was heading to Florida in the first free agency of his career, Tom Brady has officially signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team announced.
Reports later said the six-time Super Bowl champion had signed a two-year, $50 million deal with another $9 million available in incentives.
The news was first reported Tuesday, one day before the NFL’s new league year officially began and the signing could be completed.
Matters were complicated by the coronavirus outbreak, which forced the NFL to tell teams they could not bring any free agents into their facilities for a physical with team doctors. ESPN reported that Brady and the Buccaneers mutually agreed on a doctor in New York City to perform Brady’s physical Thursday, clearing the way for the signing.
Brady posted a statement on social media Friday morning saying he was “excited, humble and hungry” to start with Tampa Bay after spending his first 20 seasons with the New England Patriots.
