Update: Mass sports cancellations hit the U.S. on Thursday following the NBA’s decision to suspend its season. The list below is updated as of Thursday evening.
From the NCAA Tournament to regular season NBA games to even the rodeo, the threat of the rapidly spreading coronavirus has prompted officials and teams to make drastic changes to their sporting events.
Here’s a list of what has been affected so far, which will continue to be updated:
Suspended seasons:
- Major League Baseball (spring training ended, regular season delayed by at least two weeks)
- National Basketball Association (season suspended indefinitely)
- National Hockey League (season suspended indefinitely)
- Major League Soccer (season suspended for at least 30 days)
Event cancelations and postponements:
- NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments (canceled)
- National Invitational Tournament (canceled)
- NCAA conference basketball tournaments (canceled)
- All NCAA spring sports championships (canceled)
- Indian Wells tennis tournament (postponed)
- Houston rodeo (canceled)
Events without fans:
- PGA Tour (starting March 13 and lasting at least through Texas Open)
- NASCAR (next two races at Atlanta and Homestead-Miami)
