Shooting guard Ike Cornish, a 4-star recruit in the Class of 2021, announced Wednesday he will commit to Maryland, giving the Terrapins their second commitment of the class.

The rising senior at Legacy Charter School in South Carolina is a native of Baltimore. He chose Maryland over Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, St. John’s and Xavier.

The 6-foot-6 Cornish is the 72nd-ranked overall player in the class by 247 Sports’ composite rankings and No. 14 at his position.

“Playing basketball at the highest level has always been a lifelong dream,” Cornish said in his announcement video. “I would like to thank God, my family, my supporters and all the coaches and trainers who helped me get to this point.”

Experts consider Cornish one of the best shooters in the class. His announcement came as a bit of a surprise after originally saying he would announce his commitment on his birthday in August.

Last month, the Terrapins picked up their first 2021 commitment from Baltimore 4-star forward Julian Reese, who will follow his older sister Angel Reese, a five-star recruit for the women’s program.
