Empire co-creator Lee Daniels is bringing “The Wonder Years” back to television — without the “Arnold” family.

Fans of the classic show featuring Fred Savage as “Kevin Arnold” and Danica McKellar as childhood sweetheart “Winnie Cooper” can expect ABC reboot to air sometime during the 2021-22 season.

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that a Black family will be the focus instead of a White family

“Comedy veteran Saladin K. Patterson (The Big Bang Theory, Frasier, The Bernie Mac Show) will pen the script and exec produce alongside Daniels and his Lee Daniels Entertainment banner president Marc Velez,” the entertainment magazine reported Wednesday. “Original series co-creator Neal Marlens is attached as a consultant. Savage, who broke out with ‘The Wonder Years’ and has maintained a long career in Hollywood, will also exec produce and direct.”

The original show aired between 1988 and 1993.

Disney-owned 20th Century Fox Television will produce the show, THR added.
