The Washington Nationals canceled Winterfest 2021, the team’s annual offseason convention, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the team announced Thursday.

The convention, set to take place in January, usually features panels with Nationals players, coaches and executives to give them a chance to interact with fans.

Despite the event not being for another five months, the Nationals said they made the decision due to the uncertainty related to the pandemic.

We know how important this event is to our fans and we will miss seeing you this winter,” the team said in a statement. “That said, we look forward to offering a variety of alternative opportunities for our community to come together to celebrate our team and show our Natitude.

“We will share further information as soon as details are finalized. In the meantime, thank you all for your continued support of our World Series Champions.”

The Nationals have played this season without fans. After Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to the New York Mets, Washington dropped to 4-5 on the year.
