CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A congresswoman from New Hampshire is proposing legislation to simplify the process of distributing federal funding for rural development.
The bill by Democratic U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster would waive certain requirements for recipients of grants through the Northern Border Regional Commission. For example, they wouldn’t have to raise additional capital from non-federal sources.
Kuster said the requirements are problematic as traditional funding sources like municipalities and foundations are strained financially, due to the economic impacts of the coronavirus.

The commission assists New Hampshire, New York, Maine, and Vermont.
The bill is co-sponsored by Republican Reps. Elise Stefanik and John Katko of New York, and Democratic Reps. Chris Pappas of New Hampshire, Chellie Pingree and Jared Golden of Maine, and Peter Welch of Vermont.
