Coastal Carolina has only played football at the FBS level since 2017, so the Chanticleers’ upset of Kansas on Saturday was cause for celebration.

Coastal Carolina players set up a Kansas Jayhawk piñata in the locker room and broke it open after their 12-7 win.

Kansas is a Big 12 school, but these days its football program is one of the worst in the Power Five conferences every year. The Jayhawks are 7-43 since the start of 2015 — a year they finished 0-12.

With that in mind, perhaps the celebration is a bit over-the-top, but as Coastal Carolina graduate assistant Zane Cruz pointed out in his tweet, it still counts as a victory over a Power Five school for their young program.
