BOSTON (AP) - Health officials in Massachusetts are clarifying elements of the state’s four-month ban on the sale of all vaping products.

Public Health Commissioner Monica Bharel said Thursday the ban doesn’t apply to the online sale of vaping products by Massachusetts retailers _ provided that the person taking delivery of the item is outside of the state. Similar sales by phone are also allowed.

Any sales _ by phone, in person or over the internet _ to customers in Massachusetts are banned.

Bharel also clarified the ban does not apply to the advertisement of vaping products.

A national industry group has sued in federal court to end the ban saying it will destroy the state’s $331 million nicotine vapor products industry and cause “irreparable harm” to many law-abiding retailers, manufacturers, and distributors.
