The Washington Nationals now have a home run that is bigger than the one Jayson Werth hit in the 2012 playoffs.

Howie Kendrick, struggling at the plate and field, hit a grand slam in the top of the 10th inning as the Nationals beat the favorite Los Angeles Dodgers 7-3 in deciding Game 5 of the National League Division Series on Wednesday.

Washington will now play at the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Friday — the deepest the Nationals have ever advanced in the postseason.

“Probably the biggest moment in my career,” Kendrick said after the game. “It is definitely a dream come true. It is truly a blessing.”

Fans at Nationals Park went crazy at a watch party when the ball flew over the center field fence in Los Angeles. Members of the Washington Capitals radio crew also celebrated on the air when the Kendrick homer landed.

The Dodgers won 106 regular-season games — 13 more than the Nationals.
