Matt Adams will play first base for the Washington Nationals in Wednesday’s game at the New York Mets after Washington reinstated him from the 10-day injured list.

Adams missed 15 games with a left shoulder strain he suffered May 4. In 29 appearances before the injury, Adams batted .250 with five doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI and a .469 slugging percentage.

The Nationals sent infielder Adrian Sanchez to Double-A Harrisburg in a corresponding move.

Ryan Zimmerman, Washington’s usual everyday first baseman, remains on the injured list with plantar fasciitis but also could return to the lineup soon.

The Nationals (19-29) were beset by injuries around early May, when Zimmerman, Adams, Juan Soto, Anthony Rendon and Trea Turner were all out of the lineup at the same time. Now, only Zimmerman remains unavailable, but the Nationals’ season is quickly nosediving in the meantime.
