COVENTRY, R.I. (AP) - Police in Rhode Island are looking for a man who reportedly offered a 12-year-old girl a ride home in his vehicle as she was walking alone on a town street.
Coventry police said Saturday that they were asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect, who was described as an older and balding white man who wore black-framed glasses.
The girl told officers that she was walking alone Thursday afternoon when the man pulled up in a gray sport utility vehicle and offered her a ride home. The girl said she told the man no and backed away.
Police said the man sped away when he noticed a nearby resident watching what was going on.
