SPOTSYLVANIA COURTHOUSE, Va. (AP) - A woman has joined her grandmother in jail after pleading guilty to perjury.
The Free Lance-Star reports that 24-year-old Melinda Frances Garr pleaded guilty to two counts Tuesday, and was ordered to serve one month in the Rappahannock Regional Jail. Also at the jail is 68-year-old Linda Lou Hall, who was convicted of two counts of perjury in the same case last week, and will be sentenced in late April.
The charges against the women stem from the January 2018 trial of Hall’s son-in-law, Derek Sprouse. During a secret hearing, Hall and Garr identified Sprouse as the man seen shooting a convenience store clerk on surveillance video. But during Sprouse’s trial, the women testified Sprouse was not the man in the video.
Hall blamed memory problems for the reversal.
