AKRON, Ohio (AP) - A driver accused in a hit-and-run crash that killed an Ohio man who was outside retrieving his newspaper has pleaded not guilty to charges including vehicular homicide.

Fifty-six-year-old Monte Porter III, of Bath Township, also pleaded not guilty Thursday in Akron Municipal Court to a hit-skip charge accusing him of leaving the scene of the crash that killed Ernest Liska.

Akron police say Porter was driving an SUV left of center, struck a curb and a tree and then hit Liska before driving away. Police say Liska was on the sidewalk near his driveway when he was struck by the SUV.
