Sen. Ted Cruz took aim Friday at socialism, which he blamed for killing jobs in liberal cities.
“The blue states with high taxes, high regulation — their people are fleeing because they don’t have jobs,” he said while speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Oxon Hill, Maryland.
The Texas Republican said socialists effectively threw out thousands of jobs by pushing Amazon’s planned second headquarters out of New York last month.
Mr. Cruz’s criticism targeted liberal freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who was vocal about her opposition to the e-commerce giant establishing a headquarters in New York’s Queens borough.
In a tweet, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez suggested that nearly $3 billion in tax breaks the online retailer would have received should have been used for other initiatives for the city, which Mr. Cruz dismissed as “magic money.”
