WATERBURY, Vt. (AP) - Some sections of hiking trails in a recreation area in Waterbury, Vermont, have been closed due to a landslide.
The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation says a portion of the Cotton Brook Road and all of the Forests Trail in the Mount Mansfield State Forest have been closed until further notice.
The state says “a significant landslide” occurred on Friday.
Officials say they are assessing the situation to determine the extent of damage and whether conditions have stabilized.
The department says visitors can still access the recreation area from the Cotton Brook parking area in Stowe, but are urged to use caution and abide by closures because dangerous conditions remain. The closures are marked on signs near the parking area.
