WALLS, Miss. (AP) - Police in northern Mississippi say a woman stabbed the mother of a newborn child after promising free baby clothes.
Walls police have issued a warrant for Belinda King Maxwell on assault and child abuse charges.
Tobyianna Hicks tells WREG-TV that on June 7, Maxwell promised her baby clothes, but then took her child and drove to a church in Walls. The 17-year-old Robinsonville resident followed.
After 45 minutes waiting on the clothes, Hicks says she was comforting her daughter when Maxwell attacked her. Hicks says Maxwell stabbed her five times with a machete and threw her newborn daughter into the street.
Hicks says the two women then fought until a fire truck passed by. Maxwell fled, while Hicks and her daughter were treated at a hospital.
