NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - A former corrections counselor is pleading guilty to accepting bribes from prisoner in exchange for providing them with banned items.
Kellie Fuqua of Roxie waived indictment and pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in Natchez to one count of bribery.
A criminal charge was filed in May against the 57-year-old Fuqua, who formerly worked at Adams County Correctional Center. That privately-run prison near Natchez largely holds noncitizens who are convicted of certain crimes. Federal prosecutors say Fuqua took money to provide contraband.
A lawyer for Fuqua didn’t immediately respond Thursday to an email seeking comment.
Senior U.S. District Judge David Bramlette III is scheduled to sentence Fuqua on Oct. 1 in Natchez. She faces up to 15 years in prison and fines up to $250,000.
