The Washington Nationals’ series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies Monday night was postponed till Wednesday at 1:05 p.m., creating a day-night doubleheader in the middle of the week.

Rain in the District area initially delayed the start of Monday’s game, but even when the initial downpour subsided and the sunset peeked out of the clouds, officials held off — as more storms, including lightning, were on their way.

The final call was made just before 10 p.m.

Fans who had tickets to Monday’s game can exchange them for a future 2019 home game.

Patrick Corbin was slated to face Jake Arrieta Monday, but the Nationals and Phillies shifted their scheduled starts to Tuesday instead.

The Nationals (33-38) will play the Phillies (39-32) four times and the NL East-leading Braves (43-30) three times over the next six days.
