MCCOMB, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi lawmaker who had a two-year military deployment says he will attend some of the 2019 session but expects to be called back to duty.

Democratic Rep. David Myers of McComb tells the Enterprise-Journal that he’s seeking re-election. Myers has served since 1996 in Pike and Walthall counties.

In the U.S. Army Reserves, Myers was sent to Africa, Europe and the Middle East starting in February 2017. The deployment extended into a second year.

Myers defeated Tasha Dillon in 2011 and 2015. She challenged the 2015 results in a case that went from Pike County Circuit Court to a House panel and the state Supreme Court before returning to circuit court. A judge ruled in 2018 that Dillon didn’t prove voters were disenfranchised by illegal electioneering and voting irregularities.
