NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - Officials say two pit bulls that attacked a Mississippi woman have been euthanized.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jerry Brown tells The Natchez Democrat that the female and male dogs were euthanized Jan. 9. According to Brown, a veterinarian said the dogs were too dangerous to remain in society.

Officials say the dogs attacked 26-year-old Lindsay Barber when she was visiting friends Dec. 21. Deputies say the dogs chased Barber in the yard and attacked her until friends got them off of her. Barber suffered wounds to the face and neck and a chipped tooth. Authorities say she was treated at a hospital and is recovering at home.

An investigation is ongoing to determine whether the dogs’ owners were negligent. No charges have been filed in the case.
