LANDOVER — Former Ohio State and Florida coach Urban Meyer is at FedEx Field for the Washington Redskins’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles and visited Dan Snyder’s owner’s suite, The Team 980 reported Sunday.
The Redskins drafted quarterback Dwayne Haskins, Meyer’s last quarterback at Ohio State, in the first round this year. They will need to hire a new head coach in the coming weeks to replace Jay Gruden, who was fired after five games.
Meyer has never coached at the NFL level, but sports broadcaster Dan Patrick said this week that a source told him Meyer is interested in the Dallas Cowboys job, although it isn’t vacant at the moment.
Meyer, 55, currently works as a college football analyst for Fox Sports. He retired from coaching the Buckeyes after last season, citing his health as one of the reasons he was leaving.
Meyer coached his teams to three national titles: Florida in 2006 and 2008 and Ohio State in 2014, the first year of the College Football Playoff.
He served a three-game suspension in 2018 after it was determined that he had known about abuse allegations against former assistant coach Zach Smith and ignored them before Smith was ultimately fired.
