The Washington Redskins’ NFC East rival also had another pick in the first round Thursday night at No. 17 overall, but the Giants did not wait to pick their future quarterback.
Jones — rather than Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins or Missouri’s Drew Lock — was the second quarterback off the board, after the Arizona Cardinals took Oklahoma’s Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Kyler Murray first overall.
Manning has not indicated any plans to retire before the 2019 season, so it’s unknown when Jones will take over starting duties for Big Blue.
