LAS VEGAS (AP) - Two people are dead, one is wounded and a child escaped injury in an apparent shootout involving an arguing couple and two men in a driveway at a southeast Las Vegas home, police said Thursday.

Officers responding to a report of an afternoon disturbance found a man and a woman who had been arguing in a vehicle mortally wounded and one man in the driveway with a shoulder wound, police said.

All three people were taken to a hospital. A man was treated for injuries that Officer Larry Hadfield said did not appear to be life threatening.

Police say the woman handed the child to a man in the driveway before gunfire erupted.

More than one weapon was found at the scene, Hadfield said.

Police Lt. Ray Spencer told reporters that the man and woman were arguing in the vehicle and pulled into a random driveway, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

Outside the vehicle, the argument escalated and Spencer said a man in the driveway retrieved a rifle from the home.

The man arguing with the woman got a handgun and shot her and fired at another man in the driveway before Spencer said the man with the rifle fired back.

The man with the handgun and child’s mother died, and Spencer said the woman also had injuries to her neck that may have resulted from a stabbing.

It was not immediately clear if the man who was arguing with the woman shot himself or was struck by the rifle round.

The child was placed in the custody of Clark County Child Protective Services, police said.
