The former CIA director who had his security clearance pulled by President Trump congratulated former NFL player Colin Kaepernick for kneeling during the national anthem.
John O. Brennan quoted Mr. Kaepernick’s tweet from earlier Monday announcing that he’d become the face of Nike’s #JustDoIt anniversary campaign, in which the free-agent quarterback claimed to “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything. #JustDoIt.”
“Colin Kaepernick drew our collective attention to the problem of continued racial injustice in America. He did so not to disrespect our flag but to give meaning to the words of the preamble of our Constitution—“in order to form a more perfect union,” Mr. Brennan wrote.
In about an hour, Mr. Brennan’s post had retweeted almost 6,000 times and garnered more than 20,000 “Like” reactions.
