STANFORD, N.Y. (AP) - The New York attorney general’s office is investigating the fatal shooting of a restaurant owner by a state trooper during a confrontation outside the businessman’s Hudson Valley eatery.

State police say troopers responded Tuesday morning to a 911 call reporting an intoxicated man with a knife menacing a woman outside the Coyote Flaco Restaurant in Stanford in Dutchess County.

Officials say 41-year-old Jaime Lopez failed to follow orders from the troopers and made an aggressive movement toward them. Police say a trooper shot Lopez. He died at a Poughkeepsie hospital.
