GREENSBORO, Md. (AP) - Maryland police say a teen who attempted to kidnap a child has died in police custody.

Citing a Maryland State Police release, news outlets report officers responding to a report of a man dragging a 12-year-old boy down the street Saturday found 19-year-old Antone Black restraining the child.

The child told police they weren’t related, and Black fled the scene. A foot chase led to Black’s home, where he was shot with a stun gun. He tried to flee again, and bit two police officers and a civilian trying to restrain him. He also struck an officer in the face.

He was eventually placed in restraints, but started showing signs of medical distress. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The cause of death is pending, and remains under investigation.
