President Trump said Thursday that Democrats’ attempt to “destroy” Supreme Court nominee Brett M. Kavanaugh is backfiring on them.
At a campaign rally in Rochester, Minnesota, Mr. Trump said the polls are moving in the GOP’s direction across the country because Democrats “have been trying to destroy Judge Brett Kavanaugh.”
“Look at the polls over the last three or four days,” the president said. “It shows their [Democrats’] rage-fueled resistance is starting to backfire at a level nobody’s ever seen before. We love it.”
He said Judge Kavanaugh “is an incredible intellect, an incredible person, an incredible talent.”
As the president spoke, the crowd interrupted him with chants of “We want Kavanaugh!”
“They [Democrats] know that Judge Kavanaugh will protect, uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States as written,” Mr. Trump said.
The president also went after some prominent Minnesota Democrats, including Rep. Keith Ellison, the second-ranking official at the Democratic National Committee.
“He’s the Number Two official in the entire Democratic Party, and recently he marched in a parade wearing a shirt that said ‘I do not believe in borders.’ Wonderful,” Mr. Trump said. “Keith Ellison’s Democratic party embraces radical socialism and open borders.”
The president urged supporters to vote for Republicans in the midterm election and stop Democrats from taking over the House or Senate.
“Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the House? Don’t do that to me!” Mr. Trump implored.
