The Maryland Terrapins enter the 2018-19 season ranked ninth in the nation by The Associated Press Top 25 preseason poll.

The poll, released Wednesday, has defending champion Notre Dame ranked No. 1, where Connecticut usually is found. The Huskies are No. 2, and Oregon, Baylor and Louisville round out the top five.

Maryland is the highest-ranked Big Ten team. The only conference opponent of theirs to make the Top 25 is No. 13 Iowa.

The Terrapins graduated 3-point sharpshooter Kristen Confroy, and transfer Eleanna Christinaki decided to turn pro overseas after her lone season with Maryland. But they will have confidence moving forward with leading scorer Kaila Charles, Blair Watson, Stephanie Jones and Brianna Fraser.

Brenda Frese enters her 17th season coaching the Terrapins, whose regular season begins Nov. 9 at home against Coppin State.
