WALLS, Miss. (AP) - A north Mississippi man has been charged with murder in the death of a 3-year-old girl.

Authorities accuse Christopher Lee Waldrop of causing the head injuries that killed Baylee Allen.

Waldrop was arrested Monday and is being held on a capital murder charge without bail in DeSoto County.

Officials tell WREG-TV that Baylee was taken to a hospital Oct. 19 and later died from blunt force trauma and head trauma.

Investigators say the 30-year-old Waldrop was the boyfriend of the girl’s mother, Heather Witschner, and was with Baylee when she was injured.

Witschner says an autopsy found hemorrhages behind her daughter’s eyes and investigators think Waldrop caused the injuries by shaking the child violently.

The mother says she doesn’t think Waldrop is “capable” of hurting the girl.
