HOOVER, Ala. (AP) - Police say a teenager broke into an Alabama gun shop and stole five handguns.

Hoover police tell news outlets the 13-year-old boy was arrested early Tuesday. Capt. Gregg Rector says the store’s alarm sent officers there Monday night, and they found a front window shattered and damage to a display case. Evidence indicated a large rock and a wooden pallet were used to get inside.

Rector says a Vestavia Hills officer found the boy hiding with a handgun and brought him to Hoover police. Rector says the teenager led officers to the four other handguns he’d hidden.

Prosecutors issued petitions against the boy for third-degree burglary and first-degree theft of property.

Police say they are investigating if others could have been involved.
