LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Two Tennessee men have been convicted by a jury of taking part in a drug ring suspected of robbing nearly 60 pharmacies across 11 states.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reported Tuesday that 51-year-old James “Ronnie” Jones and 41-year-old Tony Britton were convicted this month. The two were charged in Kentucky with conspiring to distribute drugs, and Britton also was charged with breaking into pharmacies to steal pills.
Court records quote an investigator with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Kyle Sizemore, as saying thefts from 57 pharmacies across 11 states have been connected to this drug ring. He says the ring is estimated to have distributed at least 800,000 pills. Britton and Jones are set to be sentenced in February. Six others have pleaded guilty in the case.
