WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island man who struck and seriously injured a 7-year-old girl while driving with a blood-alcohol content nearly five times the legal limit to drive has been sent to prison.

Anthony Sudduth was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years behind bars with six to serve, plus five years for a probation violation, after pleading no contest to drunken driving resulting in serious bodily injury and reckless driving.

Police say his blood-alcohol content was .38 on May 9 when he ran a stop sign and struck second-grader Haylee Molina on a Warwick sidewalk.

Haylee, still in a wheelchair, was in court.

The 48-year-old Sudduth said in court he was “truly sorry and ashamed of what occurred.”

Haylee’s mother, Amanda, said she was satisfied with the sentence but can’t forgive.
