VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - A Washington man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for fatally shooting his friend.

The Columbian reports Clark County Superior Court Judge Daniel Stahnke said Monday that TJ Ferres, of Vancouver, was not acting in self-defense as he claimed, when he shot Ian Patrick McKay to death in January 2017 in his kitchen and then stomped on his head.

An affidavit of probable cause says Vancouver police responded shortly after 4 a.m. Jan. 22, 2017, to a disturbance involving a weapon at Ferres’ residence. When officers arrived, they found McKay on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to the side of his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
