MINOT, N.D. (AP) - An African spurred tortoise rescued from Lake Sakakawea has been given a home at Minot’s Roosevelt Park Zoo.
The Minot Daily News reports an angler found the tortoise floating on a log this summer, rescued it and turned it over the state Game and Fish Department. Officials think it was a pet that was released or escaped. It’s unlikely to survive a North Dakota winter without shelter.
Game and Fish has given the tortoise to the zoo. It’s been named Wilson and will be used to help educate people about choosing pets wisely.
