RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Authorities have accused the treasurer of a North Carolina nonprofit of embezzling nearly $55,000 from the group.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports police said 39-year-old Lola Yvette Houston-Hager is charged with felony embezzlement and corporate malfeasance.

According to investigators, Houston-Hager, who was a treasurer for Triangle Parents of Multiples, created counterfeit bank statements and credit card statements to hide the loss of $54,934 that police said she converted to her own use. The charges note “personal purchases,” but doesn’t specify.
