BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (AP) - A New York man who was shot and partially paralyzed says that the alleged shooter pointed the gun at him and smiled before pulling the trigger.

The Post-Star of Glens Falls reports Michael Desnoyers’ testimony this week in a Saratoga County court came during 25-year-old Joey Castro’s trial on charges of attempted murder and assault.

Desnoyers says Castro shot him in October 2017 after the man became combative during a gathering at his home in Moreau (maw-ROH’).

Desnoyers was struck in the back, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.

He says he can remember the flash from the rounds illuminating Castro’s face, and “he was smiling the whole time.”

Castro’s lawyer argued in court that Desnoyers and other witnesses may have mistaken his client for his twin brother.
