CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire prosecutors have dropped charges against a former child psychologist who was accused of fondling a 12-year-old patient.
The Concord Monitor reports the Merrimack County attorney’s office announced Wednesday they wouldn’t seek a retrial in Foad Afshar’s sexual assault case. The New Hampshire Supreme Court had ordered a new trial last week.
Jurors convicted the Bow man last summer of sexually assaulting the boy during a January 2015 therapy session in Concord. A judge granted Afshar a new trial after two jurors revealed during deliberations that they were victims of child sexual abuse.
Prosecutors say they consulted with the alleged victim’s family before making the decision.
Afshar’s lawyer says there’s no case against his client and that there wasn’t a fair trial.
