The story of DC United’s 2018 comeback felt a lot more real after Saturday night’s result.

The MLS club scored a 1-0 win at home over Western Conference-leading FC Dallas, staying unbeaten in their last seven matches and moving past Montreal Impact for sixth place in the East.

Russell Canouse scored the lone goal in the 86th minute, collecting the rebound off his own shot and putting it home to break the stalemate. It was Canouse’s first career MLS goal, and it came at the perfect time.

United (12-11-8) have 44 points and three matches left to play; Montreal is at 43 points with just two matches to go, so it’s more probable now that United hang on and clinch one of the Eastern Conference’s last two playoff spots.

The playoffs begin Oct. 31.
