BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - Police in Connecticut say they’ve arrested the leader of a white supremacist group for slowing down traffic on Interstate 95.

Thirty-seven-year-old Kenneth Zrallack and his companion, 35-year-old Lisa Holly, were charged with negligent use of a highway by a pedestrian, breach of peace and disorderly conduct. The Connecticut Post reports the pair’s lawyer asked the charges to be dismissed Wednesday, contending they were exercising free speech.

Superior Court Judge Tracy Lee Dayton says the police report and charges have nothing to do with First Amendment rights.

Police say the two tied up traffic on Interstate 95 in Bridgeport, walking along the highway with a large banner.

Officials say Zrallack’s group has not been active since his 2010 arrest and later acquittal on federal weapons charges.
