The Washington Nationals announced they have extended a qualifying offer to star free agent Bryce Harper.

Qualifying offers for MLB free agents this year are worth $17.9 million, based on the average value of the top 125 contracts in the league.

Harper now has until Nov. 12 to accept the offer, but he is not expected to do so as he seeks a nine-figure contract that could break records. Only five players have accepted qualifying offers since the structure was introduced after the 2012 season, according to the league.

The New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs and others are predicted to be in on the sweepstakes for the 26-year-old outfielder.
