PLACENTIA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a 3-year-old girl is recovering after she was bitten by a coyote in a Southern California park.

KABC-TV says the girl was playing in the Parque del Arroyo in Placentia Monday afternoon with her mother nearby when the coyote bit her in the head and ran off.

Witnesses reported seeing the 75-pound animal wandering around a neighborhood east of the park. Police found the animal and shot it.

The child was taken to a hospital. Police say her injures aren’t life-threatening.
