Redskins punter Tress Way was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday for his performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the NFL announced.

Way had four of his five punts inside the 20-yard line, and he averaged 49.4 yards per attempts. The Buccaneers had 501 yards, but the Redskins were able to limit them to three points, in part, because of Way’s punting.

He’s starting to show off a little bit, I told him today,” coach Jay Gruden said. “He’s just dropping the ball, pinpointing balls at the three, four-yard line and our guys, our gunners, don’t even have to down them.

“They are back spinning and he looks like he’s hitting soft 9-irons into the Masters ninth green for goodness sakes, so he’s doing a great job, man.”

Of Way’s 42 punts, 25 have landed inside the 20. He has yet to have a touchback this season.
