BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - A judge wants to speed up a trial for a man accused of killing eight people in south Mississippi.
Local news outlets report Lincoln County Circuit Judge David Strong on Tuesday set a Feb. 22 hearing to decide pretrial motions for Willie Cory Godbolt.
Godbolt is accused of killing a Lincoln County sheriff’s deputy, his mother-in-law and six others at three separate houses in May 2017.

State public defender Alison Steiner tells Strong she intends to ask that the trial be moved. Prosecutors earlier filed a motion for a psychiatric examination to determine if Godbolt is competent to stand trial. Steiner could file a separate motion.
