WILLISTON, Vt. (AP) - Authorities say a man accused of drunken driving later tried to escape from police and assaulted an officer.

The incident happened early Saturday morning in Williston. Police say 26-year-old Owen Gaudette, of Jericho, was charged with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license. He was taken to the Williston Police Department for processing, and authorities say on the way there, he tried to escape and assaulted the officer. Gaudette now faces additional charges, including aggravated assault, assault on a protected professional and attempted escape.

He remains in custody, and it was unknown whether he has a lawyer Sunday. The officer was not seriously hurt.
