MANSFIELD, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say an Ohio woman who works at a nursing home starved her 77-year-old mother to death and has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

The Mansfield News Journal reports 44-year-old Jennifer Sweat, of Mansfield, also faces one count of failing to provide for a functionally impaired person.

A Mansfield police detective testified at a hearing Thursday that Sweat said she typically fed her mother, Linda Sweat, daily meals of Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese.

Sgt. Matt Loughman said during the hearing that Linda Sweat was a “skeleton covered in skin” when her body was found Oct. 23.

A preliminary medical examiner’s report says neglect-related issues were found but no evidence of trauma.

A message seeking comment was left Saturday with Jennifer Sweat’s attorney.
