BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A man imprisoned in Louisiana for several robbery convictions has been tied to a 1987 rape case through DNA evidence.

The Advocate cites a release from the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office that says Louisiana State Police Crime Lab investigators reprocessed evidence from that case and a 2000 attempted kidnapping case and connected the incidents to 53-year-old Edward Earl Parker.

Parker was rearrested Wednesday on first-degree aggravated rape and aggravated kidnapping charges in connection with the 1987 case. The statute of limitations has expired for the attempted kidnapping case.

Parker was already serving a 22-year sentence at a state prison. He’s now being held at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

It’s unclear whether he has a lawyer.
