NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A second man convicted of murder in a 1999 shooting in Connecticut has been released from prison after his conviction was overturned.

Thirty-nine-year-old Marquis Jackson walked free Wednesday after a judge set aside his robbery and murder convictions for the shooting death of 22-year-old Caprice Hardy in New Haven.

Jackson’s co-defendant in the case, 37-year-old Vernon Horn, was released last week.

Prosecutors filed a motion to vacate the convictions in light of new evidence. They found that some witnesses lied at trial and that cellphone evidence linking Horn to the crime was faulty.

Prosecutor Pat Griffin said the release of the men was “appropriate and just.”

Jackson said he always believed he would be exonerated and said he is looking forward to his new life.
