MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - A West Virginia man has pleaded no contest in a road rage incident in Morgantown.

Media outlets report 64-year-old William Sothen of Salem entered the plea before the start of his trial on a misdemeanor battery charge Monday in Monongalia County Magistrate Court. A judge ordered him to serve 90 days either in home confinement or in jail.

According to video shown in court, Sothen, a former Harrison County sheriff’s deputy, was involved in a physical altercation with a 21-year-old woman last August. A criminal complaint says Sothen and the woman exchanged words in traffic, and Sothen prevented the woman from getting back in her car and took her to the ground.
